When you have Local recordings enabled in your studio, StreamYard saves a version of each participant's video feed directly to their browser's local storage on their device. This means you will need to have sufficient storage space on your computer to save the video file.
Seeing a message that says "You are running out of storage space on this device"?
Here are a few things to check
1. Make sure you have sufficient storage space on your device
You will need to have a minimum of 5GB of available space on your computer's hard drive in order to ensure your local recording is saved successfully. Check to make sure you have sufficient space.
How to check storage on Windows
- Select the Start button (Windows icon), then click Settings.
- Click System, then Storage.
- In the upper left hand corner of your Mac click the Apple icon to open the Apple menu, click System Settings, then General.
- Click Storage.
How to check storage on iPhone
- Click on the Settings app on your phone.
- Navigate to General -> [Device] Storage.
How to check storage on Android
- From the home screen, choose Apps or swipe up to access your apps.
- Choose Settings.
- Choose Device maintenance or Device care. If you do not see this screen, go to step 4.
- Choose Storage (you may need to scroll down a little)
If you do not have at least 5GB of space available on your device, you will need to delete files or applications to make more room.
2. Make sure you are not using an Incognito or Private Window to join the studio
If you are using an "Incognito" or "Private" window in your browser to join the StreamYard studio, this greatly reduces the storage availability StreamYard has access to for saving local recordings. Double check to make sure you are using a regular browser window. Chrome and Firefox will show an "Incognito" or "Private browsing" icon in the upper right hand corner of private windows.
Using a browser with a high amount of security restrictions such as the Brave browser or Duck duck go can also affect your storage quota. We recommend using Google Chrome or Firefox.
Tip: On Chrome, you can check your browser's storage availability by visiting: chrome://quota-internals/ in a new tab.
3. Make sure you have "Delete data sites have saved to your device when you close all windows" disabled.
If your browser has this setting enabled, this will also greatly lower the storage quota StreamYard has access to.
- At the top right, click More Settings.
- Click Privacy and security Site settings.
- Click Additional content settings On-device site data.
- Select Allow sites to save data on your device.
- Click the three horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner, then click Settings
- Select the panel and go to the History section.
- In the drop-down menu next to Firefox will, choose Use custom settings for history
- Make sure Clear history when Firefox closes is disabled.
