Setting a livestream up to Microsoft Teams is easy using StreamYard's Custom RTMP feature! This feature is currently only available on our paid plans.
Microsoft retired the Teams live event experience on June 30, 2026. RTMP streaming into Teams is now set up through Production tools in your event options, which means you can stream into a town hall, a webinar, or a regular Teams meeting.
Before you start
RTMP-In is controlled by your organization's Microsoft Teams settings. If you don't see the RTMP - In option described below, your IT admin needs to enable it for your account. StreamYard can't turn it on for you. Microsoft's guide for admins can be found here.
Enable RTMP-In on your Teams event

1. In Teams, select Calendar, then select New, or choose an event type from the dropdown menu.
2. Enter your event details.
3. Select Options.
4. Under Production tools, turn the RTMP - In toggle on.
5. Select Apply to finish setup.
Get your RTMP link and key
1. In Teams, select Calendar and select your event.
2. Select View event, then Options.
3. Under Production tools, you'll see the Server Ingest URL and Stream key or name.
Connect StreamYard to Teams
1. Head to your destinations tab, click Add a Destination, and then click Custom RTMP. Input the Server Ingest URL from Teams into the URL section, and the Stream key or name into the Stream Key section.
2. Add a Nickname of your choice, and click Add RTMP server. Now, this event is added as a destination in StreamYard! Each new Teams event you create will have its own RTMP details.
3. Head to your Home page, and click Create to schedule a broadcast studio with the newly created Teams RTMP destination. You will use this studio when you are ready to go live.
Go Live to Teams
1. When you are ready to start, head to your event on Teams and join it.
2. Head over to StreamYard, enter your broadcast studio, and click Go Live in the upper right hand corner to start sending your live video feed to Teams.
3. In Teams, if Manage what attendees see is enabled for your event, select the RTMP-In feed and choose Bring on stage so that attendees can see it.
4. Start your event in Teams. Attendees will now see your StreamYard feed.
5. To finish, end the event in Teams. Then, head back over to StreamYard, and click End Broadcast.
FAQ
I don't see the RTMP - In option in my Teams event. What do I do?
RTMP-In is enabled by your organization's Microsoft Teams admin through a meeting policy. If the option isn't there, contact your IT admin. StreamYard has no control over this setting.
Can I receive the live chat/comments from Teams in StreamYard?
No. When streaming using the Custom RTMP feature, you will not be able to receive comments in the StreamYard studio.
Can I use the same RTMP destination for each new Teams event?
No. Each Teams event will have its own unique Server Ingest URL and Stream key or name. You can edit your existing RTMP destination, or create a new one to stream to a new Teams event.
Can I still stream to a Teams live event?
No. Microsoft retired the Teams live event experience on June 30, 2026. Use a town hall, webinar, or meeting with RTMP-In enabled instead.
What does Teams require from the incoming stream?
Microsoft requires the incoming RTMP feed to deliver H.264 Advanced Video Coding (AVC), Constant Bitrate for 720p or Constant Bitrate and Variable Bitrate for 1080p, a frame rate of at least 29.97 fps or 30 fps, and a square pixel aspect ratio.
